The L-Acoustics Kara is a high-performance modular line source speaker designed for professional events, offering a compact and lightweight solution for long-throw audio. Its balanced design makes it a industry standard for everything from theatre productions to large-scale music concerts.
Core Acoustic Components
Transducers: Each enclosure features two 8" neodymium low-frequency (LF) cone drivers and one 3" neodymium diaphragm high-frequency (HF) compression driver.
WST Technology: It utilizes L-Acoustics' proprietary Wavefront Sculpture Technology (WST) and a DOSC waveguide to ensure coherent sound across the entire audience area.
Output and Range: It delivers a maximum SPL of 142 dB and an operating frequency range from 55 Hz to 20 kHz.
Directivity: While the original Kara has a fixed 110° horizontal coverage, the Kara II features Panflex technology, allowing for manual adjustment to 70°, 110°, or asymmetrical 90° patterns to better target specific audience areas.
System Design and Rigging
Weight and Build: The enclosure is constructed from premium Baltic birch plywood and weighs just 26 kg (57 lb).
Rigging System: It features a 4-point captive rigging system that allows for fast and safe deployment of up to 24 enclosures in a single array.
Subwoofer Pairing: For applications requiring high-impact low frequencies, Kara is typically paired with the SB18 subwoofer, which extends the system response down to 32 Hz.
Amplification: The system is driven by L-Acoustics amplified controllers like the LA4X, LA8, or LA12X, which provide active system linearisation and transducer protection.
